How we teach

The films are free here and on Instagram, Threads, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, LinkedIn and X. Those apps choose what plays next, so someone's first film might be Episode 4 of a series. Each new film is also posted on a WhatsApp channel.

Each film stands on its own

Each film repeats the earlier ideas it needs before it gets to its own subject. In a series about machine learning, for example, every film says again what artificial intelligence is, what machine learning is, and how a junk filter learns from examples.

If you watch in order you will hear these explanations more than once. This helps you learn. When you hear an idea explained the same way again, it is easier to follow and to remember, and the new part of the film builds on it.

One full film for each series

Each series also has one full film, made wide for a laptop or a television. It plays every episode of the series in order, without the repeats. It ends with one summary of the series. Each series gets one when all its episodes are out.

The same pictures and the same words

Some things stay the same from film to film so they are easy to recognise. An example always looks the same. Here is the junk filter in two films of one series.

Episode 3
Episode 4

A word is explained with the same sentence every time it comes back. For example:

The software that is trained and tested is called a model.

Each series also sticks to one example from its first film to its last: one junk filter, one recommender, one plant recogniser, one word predictor. You get to know it, and each new idea is shown on it.

Every film ends with questions

Every film ends by going over its words once more. Then it gives one or two questions to ask about anything that uses the idea. For a neural network, for example: what goes in, and what comes out?
